Subject: Upcoming fall baseball season

Thank you for your interest in Fayette County Baseball.  With another fall season approaching, we’d like to announce a few changes in board members and updates.

Many of you have grown up in the area and as a child played baseball in our park.  We have a rich history of great baseball in FCBA and would like to extend those same great ballpark experiences to our children.

The primary goal for FCBA is to provide quality baseball to the residents of Fayette County at a reasonable fee.  This was our mission last year and will remain through our stewardship of the organization.  In the 2015 Spring season we did make the change from the Rec and Competitive groups to the Diamond and Elite format.  The Elite division was only open to full-on travel teams that exceeded 6 frozen players.  All other teams were classified as Diamond.  The two divisions had a few agreed upon games, but were kept separate for the remainder of the season.  Games played between the two divisions were not counted on Diamond team standings as to not penalize them from playing “travel” teams.  On the same token, Elite teams used their games as preparation for weekend tournaments and their records were not recorded.

As hoped, this change did increase the level of competition in the Diamond division resulting in more 1-3 run games rather than 20 run games.  Real, exciting baseball is back at FCBA.

With that being said, we will continue in the same playing format as Spring season for the Fall season.  Diamond will have limited freezes and Elite will continue for those looking for practice fields and games.  One significant item of note is that we had several 16U teams in the park this season.  This marks the first time in several years that FCBA has had a 16U offering.  If you get a chance, the games are exciting to watch and provide some great baseball.  If you have questions or comments regarding the format, please contact one of us to discuss.

Another item we see continuing is the increased focus on inter-leaguing with other local organizations such as Senoia, Spaulding, Tyrone, etc..  By doing so, our teams get to see and play other quality teams in the area at different venues rather than the same teams, on the same fields.  This is a great opportunity to have some of the “travel ball” feel and benefit, without the added costs of a formal “travel” team.  Our area has many great facilities and we will plan on using them.

We would like to congratulate our FCBA Allstars.  The new format of the league allowed us to provide several great teams culminating in winning the 6U Sub-State Championship, and several divisions on the podium in 2nd or 3rd.  Great job coaches and players.  You represented FCBA well!

One area we have been striving to enhance are our playing facilities.  Kiwanis Park is the oldest park in Fayette County and also one of the largest.  We have diligently worked and will continue to improve our fields by continuing to drag, rake, and cover our infields.  The county has helped in cutting sod so that we can now relocate bases on several fields for different age groups.  This opens even more doors to play.  The county has also provided new wireless scoreboards on fields 1 and 3, and have plans after the fall season to re-paint the park, expand dugouts, and implement several other improvements.  We, as a league, are attempting to build pitching bullpens for several fields and will be focusing on fundraising for much needed batting cages.  All of these improvements create a better, safer environment for our children to learn and play, we are completely a volunteer organization and appreciate any help we get.  If you have interest in helping, please contact one of our board members.  By the way, look for the FCBA fields in the Marvel Comics movie, Antman as Pinewood studios used the park for a movie scene.

FCBA is a volunteer based organization, as such, our success in providing our children the best playing experience is greatly enhanced by the members and families that do offer assistance.  In the coming seasons, both fall and spring, we need volunteers, coaches, team Moms, field assistants, etc…  The more we put into this, the more we’ll get out of it.  There are forms posted on the FCBA website for volunteers as well as manager applications, please consider this as all of our children will benefit.  We will be planning a sponsorship drive in the coming weeks and will need as many volunteers as possible.  This will be targeting small businesses and associations in our community.  Please let one of the board members know if you would be available for this.

Our new FCBA board members are listed below, please contact any one of them if you have concerns or questions.

Fall registration will be held August 1st, 8th, and 15th from 9AM to 12 noon each day at the Kiwanis Fieldhouse by the fields.

See you on the fields,

FCBA Board
